Well, I have.
You may have noticed the Scripture verse on the home page of my website? Well, there is a story attached to that verse. It was originally directed to Jeremiah, the great prophet of the Old Testament, so why does it have a special meaning for me?
One day, needing to head off in a new direction and career path, I sat down and asked the Lord to give me direction, to guide me into His will. There were several options on the table. I’d been doing some external studies to branch out into another area of education, but I had a hankering to write. I’d thought free-lance journalism might be a good fit, but when I investigated it, I couldn’t settle to it, so I asked Him to spell out in black and white, what direction I should go? Was it writing … or was that me wanting to do something exciting and different, far removed from anything I’d done in the past?
I’d heard stories about people opening their Bibles, looking for answers, taking things out of context, and ending up in a complete mess because they’d read into a verse something that was not intended. I didn’t want to be one of those people, but nevertheless, I did just that; opened my Bible and started reading. Within seconds, Jeremiah 30:2 stopped me in my tracks, the directness of the Lord’s command to ‘write in book all the words I have spoken to you’ completely taking my breath away. Was I flabbergasted? Yes! Did I take the ‘answer’ seriously? Yes, but was I ready to jump in and start writing immediately? No! For one thing, I had to learn to type and word-process so I went ahead and acquired those skills, but how a long ago was that? A long time ago, but I never forgot what I’d been instructed to do, and though slow in arriving, ‘More Than Sparrows’ is now a novel and Book One of the series (White unto Harvest) and Book Two is in the pipeline!
Have you had a similar experience about receiving an answer to prayer? I’d love to hear about it. Leave a comment below.
